Support for Venezuelan migrants and refugees with UNHCR
We understand that Venezuelan immigrants and refugees are one of the most vulnerable populations in the country. The Colombian-Venezuelan border located in La Guajira represents a critical point in which there are more than 300 identified informal steps. In La Guajira alone there are more than 106,740 refugees and migrants.
Bearing this reality in mind, we linked up with the United Nations through its refugee agency (UNHCR) to improve the infrastructure of the Comprehensive Care Center (CAI) located in Maicao, where humanitarian assistance and protection under international standards are guaranteed to the Wayuu population, as well as refugees, migrants and returnees from Venezuela.
Right there, through local integration, access to basic services, fundamental rights and lasting solutions are promoted for those who intend to stay.
Attention Centers for Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants
We also support the maintenance of the Venezuelan Refugee and Migrant Care Centers (CARM) in Maicao and Riohacha. These temporary shelters offer a stay of approximately one month, as well as comprehensive care, legal assistance, psychosocial support, food and protection for refugees, migrants, returned Colombians and the Wayuu population.
In 2021, more than 1,880 people received care at the CARMs in Maicao and Riohacha
1,800,000 Venezuelans have arrived in the country seeking refuge, and more than 845,000 Colombians have returned, according to data from Migración Colombia.Casa segura
La Casa Segura, located in Riohacha and with capacity for 40 people, works for the recovery and personal development of adult women who have been victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and their children. In addition, it offers accommodation, legal, psychological, socio-family and pedagogical assistance, even to people who do not temporarily live there.
